More great happenings in and around Los Angeles. This time we highlight an amazing exhibit at the Getty, various works from Yvonne Rainer titled Dances and Films. Rainer was many things; a dancer, choreographer, filmmaker, feminist, writer and visionary. The San Francisco native is without question one of the most prolific, artists to come from the United States within the last 50 years. She crossed various mediums, and through those mediums she touched upon minimalism, post modernism, feminist works, and visual arts. She came to prominence as a member of the Judson Dance Theatre in New York in the 1950's and 60's, during the 70's she transitioned to more politically themed work much of which can be seen in several feature films she produced during the 1970's. Her films, writings and thoughts are collected lovingly by the Getty, its a great way to spend an afternoon and a great thing for Los Angeles. The exhibition ends October 12th, don't miss out.
