Roy Ayers has had one of the more remarkable, and celebrated musical careers of the last 40 years. His brand of jazz, is one that was dismissed by many as being pop and very commercially driven. As true as those sentiments may be, regardless of those politics he is still a jazz legend, albeit it one that leaned heavily on funk, and soul. His music was often lumped up in the R&B sections of the finest record stores, but make no mistake he is a jazz musician, and the music he made in his prime years is still jazz.
